Are chiropody services/orthotics covered by private insurances? OHIP?

Private insurance - Chiropody treatments and Orthotics are more than likely covered by private insurances fully or at a partial percentage. It’s always a good idea to check your insurance coverage before your initial appointment - Chiropody visits and Orthotics are usually under separate categories

OHIP – unfortunately it is not covered

Do I need a prescription to come see a chiropodist?

No. Most insurances do not require a prescription to be covered. If you are getting orthotics, the chiropodist will provide you one. If you need compression stockings, a doctor referral is needed.

Do we freeze the toe for ingrown toe nails?

Yes we offer an injectable local anaesthetic. Most ingrown toe nail treatments do not need the injection but the chiropodist and patient will both discuss and agree upon an injectable treatment. If a surgery is needed (partial nail avulsion), an injectable is administered

Do you treat plantar fasciitis/heel and arch pain?

Yes, this condition is one of the most common problems chiropodist sees. A detailed examine and biomechanical and gait analysis will be assessed and multiple different treatment plans will be given from home treatments, shockwave, orthotics, footwear, active muscle release etc..

How does one get custom made foot orthotics?

A biomechanical and gait analysis will be performed which consists of a detailed history of the patient, checking the foot and body: weight bearing and non-weight bearing - examining all the foot joints range of motion and muscle tests, how the feet function standing and a detailed analysis of how the patient walks.

The chiropodist will provide a prescription, biomechanical and gait analysis report that includes casting technique and materials used for the orthotics. Insurances will also need a lab invoice of the orthotics, paid in full receipt, potentially a claims form and potentially a pick up letter.
