Chiropody is a branch of medical science that involves the assessment and management of foot and lower limb disorders: this includes the management of a wide variety of disorders, injuries and local manifestations of systemic conditions (from http://michener.ca/program/chiropody/).
A Chiropodist can help manage the lower extremity manifestations in the following areas:
Amanda is certified Chiropodist from the Michener Institute. Amanda has an extensive background in kinesiology, personal training, and pedorthics that allows her to excel as a chiropodist. She graduated from Western University with a B.A Honours Specialization in Kinesiology and a diploma in Pedorthics. Amanda spent 6 years working as a pedorthist allowing her to have extensive knowledge and skills on making and modifying custom foot orthoses by hand or from a lab. She has a strong ability to cast through plaster of paris, foam, wax, and laser.
Amanda takes detailed patient history, footwear wear analysis, weight-bearing body assessment, gait analysis, appropriate functional tests, non-weight bearing lower limb joint range of motions, casting for custom foot orthoses, footwear modifications, padding/taping, compression stockings and patient educations on a wide variety of topics.
She has exposure to many types of lower limb pains, injuries and deformities such as; plantar fasciitis, Achilles’ pain, fractures, ankle, shin, knee, hip, and lower back pain. Also, she provides fast and efficient treatments of ingrown nails, corns, calluses, warts, and diabetic feet with the knowledge to generate new and appropriate treatment plans suitable for each unique patient.
In addition, she administers injectable materials within the scope of practice to perform soft tissue surgeries (nail removals for ingrown nails, tendon releases for claw toes, wart needling, and excision, cyst removal) and appropriate prescription of necessary medications.
Amanda recently started to incorporate manual therapy, foot mobilizations/adjustments and hypervolt techniques into her practice.
